Your MOT checks that your car meets minimum safety and environmental standards set by the DVSA. It is not the same as a service. Our B37 workshop carries out MOT tests for drivers across Birmingham, Solihull and Coventry with honest results and clear advice if anything needs attention.
WHAT IS CHECKED DURING AN MOT
Brakes
Pads, discs, pipes and handbrake efficiency checked for safe stopping power.
Lights
Headlights, indicators, brake lights and registration plate bulbs tested.
Steering
Steering rack, column and power steering components inspected for play.
Tyres
Tread depth, condition and tyre size checked against manufacturer spec.
Emissions
Exhaust emissions tested to meet current environmental standards.
Bodywork
Sharp edges, corrosion and structural integrity assessed for safety.
Windscreen
Chips, cracks and wiper condition checked for driver visibility.
Seatbelts
Buckle mechanisms, webbing and mounting points checked.
WHAT HAPPENS
AFTER AN MOT FAIL
If your car fails, we explain exactly what needs fixing and give you a quote before any work starts. Minor failures can often be repaired the same day. You cannot drive a car with a failed MOT unless you are going directly to a pre-booked repair appointment or retest.
ADVISORY
VS FAILURE
A failure means the item must be fixed before the car passes today. An advisory is a note that something is wearing but still passes today. We recommend fixing advisories before they become failures at your next MOT or cause a breakdown.
